It’s Halftime!
“It’s halftime for 2020!” said June 30th.
I just came off a week-long “staycation” during which time one of my most profound (as in “duh!”) insights was just how badly I had needed a vacation. Emotionally, the last 3 months had taken a toll, and my internal compass was in need of recalibration. Given all that has gone on since March, this should not have come as a surprise, but it was amazing to realize just how quickly my scripting had come into play to reassure myself and others that I was doing “just fine.” Sound familiar?
Part of the inspiration for the PeerRx process was the recognition that the work we do in healthcare will regularly create the conditions to put us “off-course.” Under such circumstances, we risk becoming distanced from identity, from meaning, from priorities, from perspective, and from each other. That is why we need others in our lives who can help provide perspective, encouragement, and accountability to help get us back on course again.
A vital component of the PRx90 process, the quarterly “90 minutes every 90 days” check-in, is intended to provide a deliberate space for and deeper reflection and connection. Here’s a reminder of that process: https://www.peerrxmed.com/proces But in order for this to happen, you have to carve out some time and step away long enough to allow your head to clear and your heart to open.
When you schedule time to connect with your PeerRx partner for a longer period of time, here are some questions to consider for dialogue together:
· What would you say are your top 3 priorities presently and how are you incorporating them deliberately into your life?
· What have you learned about yourself over the past 3 months?
· What are your personal/professional goals over the next three months?
· What are your dreams both personally and professionally? How are you taking action to move toward them?
· When’s your next vacation / adventure / break? What will you do that will be fun for you?
Taking time regularly for recalibration is not selfish, but rather sanity and ultimately good stewardship of your life energy. Sadly, it is often neglected by those who are always “on the go” and/or “needed by others.” So don’t skip 2020 halftime! Schedule some time in the next 2 weeks for a “life check-up” to ensure you’re on target to be living the life you want to be living. And allow your PeerRx partner help encourage and support you in this process. It will help make for better “Second Half.”
