We All Need Somebody ...
“We all need somebody to lean on.” Bill Withers
Musician Bill Withers died this week, and his legacy provides lessons for each of us. His most popular song, “Lean on Me,” is one that has crossed generations and has been covered by numerous other artists. The lyrics are universal and incredibly timely for our present circumstances: “Sometimes in our lives, we all have pain, we all have sorrow … Lean on me, when you’re not strong …. We all need somebody to lean on.”
In talking with colleagues over the past few days, it’s my observation that we’re all carrying a heavy load of emotions, and for many that load includes anger, fear, anxiety, and sadness. Additionally, our “social distancing” has made many feel quite isolated both physically and emotionally. So if you’re feeling any of these emotions, please know you are not alone.
It is during times such as this that it is more important than ever to not try and “soldier” through alone. Asking for help to try and process these surreal times is not weakness, but rather wisdom and sanity. That’s the entire purpose of PeerRx – to share the journey together.
Withers ended his song with this invitation:
If there is a load you have to bear that you can't carry
I'm right up the road, I'll share your load If you just call me (call me)
Given the likelihood that you’re going to be feeling some distress this week, remember, “lean on me” is wisdom … keeping 6 feet between you, of course ….
