Present Your Authentic Self

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen …. Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world.”  Brene Brown (The Gifts of Imperfection).

It finally happened!  A decade after the vision for PeerRx was planted in me, I hit the “make public” button on the PeerRxMed website, and the program was officially “out there.” Those of you who know me well will likely be surprised as to how hard it was for me to take this step.  The vulnerability I have been feeling at the prospect of sharing this dream more widely has at times been stifling … and I was allowing my fears that it wouldn’t be “perfect” or some might think it was “soft” or “trite” to prevent me from moving ahead.  It’s the same reason I have given in the past for not sharing the poetry I write with more people, even though I consider it to be a vital expression of “who I am.”

It is my suspicion that many of us don’t allow wonderful, deeply important parts of ourselves to be “seen” due to our fear as to how those parts will be received.   And in the process, we don’t really bring our “authentic selves” to the world.  If that is true for you, what are some of those parts of you and what prevents you from sharing more?

This week when you check-in with your PeerRx partner (“How’s it going?”), consider sharing about an aspect of yourself that is “essential” for you (part of your essence) but that for whatever reason you find yourself holding back from expressing.  Specifically, consider sharing:

  • Here’s something about me that is quite important to me that you likely don’t know.

  • This is one specific thing you, as my PeerRx partner, can do to help support and/or encourage me to be more courageous in my authenticity.

Thanks in advance for “being more real” this week.  You’ll be a better you because of it.

And now that I’m feeling more courageous (and authentic), please spread the word about PeerRx to your colleagues (PeerRxMed.com).

 Ready, set, connect …
